Handyman price list
Build a handyman flat price from task hours and materials, using your own hourly rate and minimum visit.
Defaults are a starting point, set your own. Your inputs stay in this browser.
A starting point, set your own rates. National references provide context; these calculations are not city price quotes.

How much do handymen charge per hour
Use the task list as a starting worksheet for a price book you control. Each row includes a lower and upper time allowance, a materials allowance, and the flat amounts calculated from those inputs. The time bands are planning assumptions, not a national duration survey. A loose hinge on an accessible door and a damaged frame can both arrive as a request to fix a door, yet they need different work and different quotes.
Choose a task to load its lower time and materials scenario into the calculator. Then adjust it after inspecting the job. Your hourly rate, material markup, and minimum visit remain visible. The minimum applies to the combined job estimate as a floor. If several tasks happen during one visit, consider the shared setup before adding together several minimum-priced rows. The list is not telling you to charge the travel portion repeatedly.
Use the labor cost calculator to check the hourly rate behind the list. The markup and margin calculator explains why marking up materials by a percentage does not create that same margin on the whole job. Record assumptions about access, customer-supplied parts, disposal, and finish quality beside the price. Those details are what make a saved task useful the next time a similar request arrives.

Handyman price calculator
The national hourly reference below is a broad comparison point. It does not set a rate for your city, license, experience, or insurance situation. The calculator starts with an hourly input within that published band, but you can replace it. Travel, tools, administrative work, and the proportion of hours you can sell affect the rate your business needs. A customer-facing rate should not be confused with the wage paid to a helper.
Flat pricing can make a clearly defined task easier for a customer to approve. It also means you carry the risk of an incomplete scope. Before quoting, confirm the condition of the existing installation and whether the replacement part fits. State what happens if inspection reveals additional work. For tasks that involve regulated trades or work outside your competence, check local requirements and refer the job as appropriate; a line in a price book is not permission to perform it.
If a turnover includes a deep clean, use the house cleaning price calculator for that work. Outdoor washing belongs in the pressure washing price calculator. Avoid hiding unrelated services in an hourly handyman line when a separate scope would be clearer. The completed quote should make the customer’s choices, materials responsibility, and approval boundaries easy to understand before the appointment begins.
Handyman price calculator: download your CSV price book
Download the CSV to edit the price book in a spreadsheet. It contains the task name, time allowances, materials allowances, and calculated low and high totals using the current hourly rate, material markup, and minimum. Changing those three inputs updates the price book rows before download. You can keep the worksheet locally, add your own notes, and replace the illustrative allowances with observations from completed jobs.
The lower and upper scenarios are not guaranteed minimum and maximum invoices. Hidden damage, access, special parts, or a return visit can move the work outside them. Name those limits when sharing an estimate. If a customer supplies materials, inspect what has been supplied and enter only the costs you expect to carry. A materials allowance is not a promise that every model or finish can be purchased for that amount.
Review the lawn mowing price calculator if your maintenance work also includes regular yard visits. The Driveway Desk workflow helps connect a priced task to the quote and subsequent job, while plan details cover software separately. Keep the downloaded file dated and compare it with recent jobs before reusing it. A price book improves through consistent records: scope, expected hours, actual hours, materials, and the changes you agreed with the customer.
How we calculate this
Flat price = max(minimum visit, task hours × hourly rate + materials × (1 + materials markup / 100)). Each task row calculates a low and high scenario from its time and material allowances. Those allowances are planning estimates, not claims about typical national job duration.
Fixr lists a national handyman hourly range of $50 to $100. The initial $90 input sits within that reference range. Task times, materials, and markup are editable planning assumptions: a starting point, set your own.
Handyman price list questions
Are the handyman task times guaranteed durations?
No. They are planning allowances for comparing simple task scenarios. Access, condition, fitting problems, and hidden damage can change the work substantially. Inspect the job and replace the allowances with your own estimate before promising a flat price. Record the actual hours afterward so your saved price book becomes more useful over time.
How is each handyman flat price calculated?
The calculation adds task hours times your hourly rate to materials with your chosen material markup, then applies the minimum visit as a floor. Each table row runs a lower and upper scenario from its allowances. Those scenario totals are not guaranteed limits for every job bearing the same task name.
What hourly rate should I put in the handyman list?
Fixr’s linked national guide gives a broad hourly comparison range, but your rate should reflect the costs and billable time of your own business. Use the labor calculator to inspect those costs. The starting rate is editable and is not a city-specific recommendation, a wage estimate, or a promise about customer demand.
Does the CSV download use my edited handyman rate?
Yes. After changing the hourly rate, material markup, or minimum visit, the browser recalculates the task rows and uses those amounts in the CSV. The file includes the time and material assumptions as well as the totals. You can open it in a spreadsheet and replace the task allowances with your own records.
Should I add a minimum charge for every task on one visit?
Review the combined scope first. Several tasks at one address may share travel and setup, so adding independent minimum-priced rows can count that shared work repeatedly. This list calculates standalone scenarios. Build a combined quote that makes your actual charging method clear and accounts for any efficiencies you deliberately pass to the customer.
Can I price customer-supplied materials with this tool?
Enter only the material costs you expect to carry, then keep the customer’s supplied items in the scope notes. Check that the parts fit and agree what happens if they do not. A zero materials input does not remove labor, setup, or the possibility of additional approved work discovered during the visit.
